It’s about one of the most ugly cars to come into existence.
The Volkswagen New Beetle

Really? I don’t think it’s that ugly.

Disagree; but how are they working it into your class?

The new new Beetle or the old new Beetle?
![]() 02/29/2016 at 21:25 |

Nah they’re fine

I’m just not a fan of it, though that rare RSi is kinda neat.

The launch and advertising for the original New Beetle back in the late 90s.

Pretty much any car in rally form can look good, even the first gen prius!

Old New Beetle. Doesn’t Volkswagen refer to the current one as just the Beetle though?
![]() 02/29/2016 at 21:37 |

Probably.

I think the Prowler was the only other “Retro” style car at that time.
The Beetle being successful brought much worse attempts at retro after it.

Is it being compared to the original Beetle advertising? It’s where the inspiration came from.

Does this help?

Yup

Say what you want about the car, but both campaigns were very effective in their own respective ways.
The original Beetle advertising portrayed the car’s simplicity through simple imagery and description. When the new campaign mimicked the old one, it was very effective at conjuring up the emotions the Baby Boomer generation associated with the original Beetle. Brilliant thinking IMO.

What if it was a RSi? 3.2L VR6, 225hp/234lb-ft, AWD, 6spd manual, 0-60 in 6.4 seconds. They only made 250 sold to the European market, MSRP was $80,000.

I totally agree with that, but the New Beetle does not appeal to me though VW needed something like this to bring them back to success.

I think they’re pretty cool.

cute

Yeah, that’s quite nice actually.

What’s this I see? advertising classes?
(I work in automotive advertising and graduated from Michigan State in advertising back in 08)

Yep, it’s a decent class.

Are you in college? Are you majoring in Advertising or just taking a class?
![]() 03/10/2016 at 12:29 |
|
Yeah, I’m majoring in marketing.

Majoring in Marketing does not equal majoring in Advertising.
Are you hoping to jump to Advertising career wise or stay on the client marketing side?

My school doesn’t have an advertising major but we take a few advertising classes as part of the major. Right now I’m not too sure but I may end up going in a different direction, I’m about 4 classes away from finishing this major so I might as well get the degree.

yeah definitely finish it!
Marketing will get you into almost any business. Advertising programs aren’t everywhere. MSU has one of the biggest/best in the country and I stumbled into it after escaping the Marketing major.
In the Ad industry you’re definitely not going to get a creative job with a Marketing degree but you can definitely get in as an account guy. That’s the guy who interacts with the clients, and it’s a large job market.
